Artist Spotlight: Asia Hall

Artist Spotlight is a fashion-focused segment that takes a deep dive into the unique backstories and their creative processes. Highlighting the fashion industry's hidden gems and innovative talents.

Neon Cowboys is a black-owned wearable tech brand that specializes in illuminated western wear, which also includes accessories and clothes. The brand was founded in 2014 by Asia Hall. The brand’s neon cowboy hats have been seen all over Instagram on celebrities like Selena Gomez, Bella Thorn, and Winnie Harlow. The brand’s most recent collaboration consisted of limited edition Kacey Mcgraves x Neon Cowboy hats. Hall came up with the brand idea while attending a country music festival and envisioning a crowd filled with light up neon hats. With hand glued prototypes Hall set out to test her product at a music festival, where the crowd loved it and demand was high. Growing up Hall was exposed to the fashion industry by her father, Kevin Hall, who was a creative director for a fashion brand in LA. All of the brand’s pieces are limited edition because of exclusivity, sustainability, and financial resources. The cowboy hats are seen as unique and a collectors item and with the brand still rising in popularity they are still working on supply chain and inventory.

Hall stated in an interview with Paper Magazine that her ethnic background of being both Chinese and African American has an influence on her work. Neon Cowboy’s works very closely with their suppliers in China and makes sure to visit them annually and work with them to create new products and fashion technology. Hall also stated that being Black has forced her to realize how people perceive her. In the future Hall would like to see Neon Cowboys progress into digital spaces such as video games like Fortnite and Animal Crossing where they would use her products as avatar skins and hope to one day design tech couture for the Met Gala.
