It’s no secret that black culture has had a global influence on both the beauty and fashion industries. Even though many styles are inspired by black culture, black people are a lot of the time not recognized for creating these trends. Resulting in them not being able to profit from the trends. This is why it is so important to support black businesses and creatives. 

Black Opal

  • BLK/OPAL was recently purchased by Desiree Rogers and Cheryl Mayberry McKissack and has been the leader in developing skincare and makeup in women of color since 1994. The brand focuses on the unique skincare needs that many people have such as hyperpigmentation to shade matching to oil control. The brand commits to offering high-quality and high-performing that bring out the best in melanin skin tones.  

  • Afro Pick

    • Created by the Walker Boys, Afropick is the brand to check out when you need to refresh your look and or create more volume, whether you have a curly shag or a ’fro. The brand was created to show that afro picks are more than just tools to take care of natural hair, but symbols of unity and strength in Black culture. They also tell a powerful story of black culture. 

  • Uoma

    • Founded by industry veteran Sharon Chuter, Uoma Beauty is a brand that is “forward-thinking, radical and uncompromised”. The brand sells products that are perfect for every skin tone and help focus on each skin tone's major concerns. The collection can be described as esthetically pleasing with an instant payoff, skin-loving, and a pleasure to all the senses, and most of all suitable for all skin tones.

  • The Lip Bar

    • The Lip Bar is a cruelty-free beauty brand that was launched in 2012 and was created to help change the way people think about beauty. Melissa Butler founded The Lip Bar after becoming frustrated with the way the beauty industry was telling women how they should look. Butler started The Lip Bar in her kitchen and now the brand is in over 1,000 stores nationwide. 

  • Bomba Curls

    • Bomba Curls was founded by Lulu Cordero and uses the unique elements of Dominican-style formulations and organic ingredients. Cordero believes that all curls should be celebrated and that Bomba Curls can help your hair achieve its maximum potential. The products are pure, clean, and made to meet the needs of your natural curls natural coils.

  • Beauty Bakerie

    • Beauty Bakerie was founded in 2011 by Cashmere Nicole, with the intention of creating products that are high quality, contain healthy ingredients, and enhance the beauty in everyone. The products are cruelty-free and all inclusive.

  • Mented Cosmetics

    • Mented Cosmetics was founded by KJ Miller and Amanda E. Johnson in 2016. Miller and Jhonson were inspired to create Mented Cosmetics after not agreeing on how hard it is to find the perfect nude lipstick. The products range from extremely pigmented and creamy lipsticks to foundations and eyeshadow palettes. All of the brand’s lipsticks are also vegan, non-toxic, paraben-free, and cruelty-free. 

  • KNC Beauty

    • Founded by Kristen Nicole Crawley, KNC Beauty is home to Instagram’s favorite all-natural collagen-infused lip mask. After strolling through Don Quijote in Tokyo, Kristen spotted a wall full of lip masks and fell in love, but she didn’t see any natural masks. After noticing the lack of natural lip masks, she decided to create some of her own.

  • Briogeo

    • This cruelty haircare brand was created by Nancy Twine in 2013. The brand was inspired by New York City’s vibrant culture, core values, positivity, individuality, and transparency. Briogeo is very transparent about the ingredients that go into their products and they also cater to all hair types. 

  • Juvai’s Place

    • Chichi Eburu founded Juvai’s Place when she struggled to find makeup that suited her deep skin tone. After only finding makeup that would enhance the hues of her dark skin tone she decided there was a necessity in the beauty marketplace that she could fulfill. The brand was created in celebration of many of the tribes and cultures in Africa.
